05 Aug Restaurant Review: Cosmos Cafe
I absolutely love the resurgence of local, independent businesses on North Avenue in Wauwatosa. I’m honored to have a shop here, and feel like it’s a community that supports one another and helps one another succeed.
My block has a number of great stores, and today I’d like to highlight Cosmos Cafe on North and 71st Street. Now I hate to admit this, but often after a long day for both Mrs. TG and myself, we grab something fast and easy for our own dinner – often pizza. Last week, I decided to call in an order to Cosmos on my way home. Let’s just say – this is fast food with a healthy, Greek flair. For under $20, Mrs. TG and I feasted and didn’t even have to feel bad about it in the morning!
We started with the Starter Combo ($9) which includes hummus, spanakopita, falafel, feta cheese, olives, and pita bread. This is no joke folks – huge portion of everything, tahini to dip the falafel, fresh, fresh, fresh chunks of feta – I couldn’t have been more pleased when I opened this to-go box!
We also tried the gyro ($6.25) which was again, proportioned to share. The lamb was delicious, it came with an extra pita (perfect for us), plenty of onions, tomatoes, and cucumber sauce – delish.
Cosmos is a small diner – limited seating inside and a lovely patio for outdoor seating in the summer. The Tselentis family has been cooking delicious Greek food for years, and they even have a Friday night fish fry! If you live in the Tosa area, or are looking for a family-run Greek restaurant to check out, this is your place. Plus, you get to help keep our little North Avenue corridor lively and thriving by shopping here!
Thanks to all who already support this area, and here’s to the small business owners who make our little part of the city so unique and tasty!
