Uses for Coconut Oil and Brown Sugar Scrub Recipe

A year ago, a friend of ours recommended using coconut oil as a moisturizer. She told us it’s great on dry skin, especially feet and hands during these cold Wisconsin winters. She was so right! Especially when we are in the midst of lots of catering jobs,  we wash our hands A LOT in the course of a day. It is a life saver. It also has antibacterial qualities, and has thus helped heal burns and cuts more quickly. We thought we’d share the uses of Coconut Oil and Brown Sugar Scrub.

We don’t know how well all these remedies work, but the ones we have tried did work quite well. Amanda made the sugar scrub below at a Pinterest party, and keeps making more it’s so great. Use as a body scrub in the shower. Rinse scrub off with water only, it will leave the coconut oil on your skin as a shaving salve. Be warned, it acts as an exfoliant and you will need to clear your razor frequently.

Brown Sugar Scrub

Brown Sugar Scrub

1 1/2 cups brown sugar
10 tablespoons unrefined organic coconut oil (we use Trader Joe’s)
Optional: 20 drops Vanilla Essential Oil

Coconut oil is solid at room temperature, so to make the process a little easier, put coconut oil in the microwave for a few seconds at a time to soften. Knead together with brown sugar, using your hands is best, until completely combined. Add essential oil if desired.
